Short Story 999 – The Flight To Toronto (Int)

David sat near the large window in the modern airport lounge and looked at his ticket. He had three hours before his long flight across the Atlantic Ocean to Canada. He was traveling to visit his sister, who had moved to Toronto two years ago for work.

To pass the time, David bought a hot cup of tea and opened his laptop to watch a short documentary. The airport was busy with travellers from all over the world, but the waiting area was comfortable and organized. Announcements played regularly over the speakers, reminding passengers about gate numbers and boarding times.

When the screen above his gate displayed the word “Boarding,” David stood up, collected his small jacket and hand luggage, and joined the queue. The airline staff checked his passport and boarding pass quickly. He walked down the corridor and stepped onto the plane.

A friendly flight attendant greeted him at the entrance and showed him to his seat in row twelve. David placed his bag in the overhead compartment above his seat and sat down. A friendly woman sitting next to him smiled and introduced herself as Sarah. She was returning home after a business conference. They chatted politely about their travel plans until the cabin crew performed the safety demonstration.

Soon, the aircraft moved slowly toward the runway, accelerated smoothly, and rose into the sky. Above the clouds, the flight was calm and steady. The crew served a hot meal of chicken and vegetables, followed by tea and coffee. David watched a comedy movie on the screen in front of him and then slept for a few hours.

When he woke up, the captain announced that they were beginning their descent into Toronto Pearson Airport. The plane landed smoothly on the runway, and the passengers clapped gently. David gathered his belongings, thanked the crew, and walked through passport control. As he entered the arrival hall, he saw his sister waving happily at him near the exit. He smiled, waved back, and walked over to start his holiday.
