Anna lives in a small flat in Taunton. It is Saturday morning. The sun is bright and the sky is clear. Anna wants to go to the city centre today. She needs a new bag for work. Her old bag is very old and has a hole in it.
At 9 o’clock, Anna walks to the bus stop. She waits for the number 5 bus. The bus comes at 9:05. It is full of people. Anna finds a seat next to an old man. He has white hair and wears a green hat. He smiles at Anna and says, “Good morning.” Anna says, “Good morning” back to him.
The bus is slow because there are many cars on the road. Anna looks out of the window. She sees shops, a school, and a big park. After twenty minutes, the bus stops in the city centre. Anna and the old man get off the bus. The old man says, “Have a nice day.” Anna says, “You too.”
Anna walks to Market Street. There are many shops on Market Street. She goes into a shop called “City Bags”. Inside, the shop has red bags, black bags, yellow bags, and blue bags. Some bags are big. Some bags are small. Anna looks at a blue bag. It is not big and not small. It has one long handle and two small pockets inside. The price tag says “£10”. Anna has £12 in her purse. She thinks, “This is perfect for my job.”
Anna takes the blue bag to the shop worker. The shop worker is a young woman with short hair. She says, “Good choice. This bag is very strong.” Anna pays £10. The woman puts the bag in a paper bag. Anna says, “Thank you” and leaves the shop.
Now Anna is hungry. She walks to a small café on River Road. The café is called “The Tea Cup”. It is warm and smells of bread and coffee. Anna sits at a table by the window. She orders a cup of tea and a piece of chocolate cake. The cake is very good.
While Anna eats, the door opens. Her friend Tom walks in. Tom works at the bank near the café. He sees Anna and waves. He comes to her table and says, “Hello, Anna! Is that a new bag?” Anna holds up the blue bag and smiles. “Yes, I got it today. Do you like it?” Tom says, “I like it very much. Blue is a good colour for you.”
Tom sits with Anna. They talk for one hour. They talk about work, the weather, and their families. Tom pays for his coffee. Anna pays for her tea and cake. At 1:30, they say goodbye. Tom goes back to the bank. Anna decides to go home.
She walks to the bus stop. At 2 o’clock, the number 5 bus comes. Anna gets on the bus. She sees the same old man with the green hat. He is sitting near the front. He sees Anna and her blue bag. He says, “Oh, you bought the bag! It is very nice.” Anna feels happy. She says, “Thank you. Today was a good day.”
Anna sits down and puts her purse inside the new blue bag. The bus takes twenty minutes to get to her stop. Anna gets off and walks to her flat. It is 3 o’clock now.
In her flat, Anna puts the blue bag on the kitchen table. She takes her old bag and puts it in the bin because it has a big hole. Then she makes a cup of tea. She sits down and looks at her new blue bag. It is perfect. Anna is tired but very happy. She had a good day in the city.
