Short Story 265 – The Surprise Birthday Party

Emily was excited. Her birthday was next week, and she had plans to celebrate with her friends. She wanted to have a small party at her flat. She sent a message to her closest friends, inviting them to come. Emily loved spending time with them, eating cake, and laughing.

Her best friend, Sarah, replied quickly. “I can’t wait! This is going to be fun!” Emily smiled at her phone. She started to think of ideas for the party. What food should she make? Should she buy a cake, or bake one?

As she thought about her party, she received a call from Sarah. “Emily, I have a great idea! Let’s make it a surprise party!” Emily was surprised. She had never had a surprise party before. “That sounds exciting, but how can we keep it a surprise?” she asked.

Sarah explained her plan. They could tell everyone that Emily’s party would be at Sarah’s house. Then, they could bring Emily to the party without her knowing. Emily liked the idea but was nervous. “What if I find out?” she asked.

“Don’t worry! I will keep it a secret,” Sarah promised. Emily agreed, and they started to plan. They made a list of friends to invite: Mark, Tom, Jenna, and Lucy. They decided to meet in a week to celebrate.

The day of the surprise party arrived. Emily was at home, thinking it was just a normal day. She made a cake, cookies, and some snacks. She wore her favourite dress and was ready for a fun evening.

Meanwhile, Sarah was busy at her house. She decorated the living room with balloons and streamers. She set a table with plates and cups. Everything looked perfect!

At 6 PM, Sarah texted Emily, “Hey, do you want to come over? I need some help with my new coffee machine!” Emily replied, “Sure! I’ll be there in 10 minutes.”

As Emily walked to Sarah’s house, she felt happy. She thought it was nice to help a friend. When she arrived, Sarah opened the door with a big smile. “Thanks for coming!” she said.

“Where is your coffee machine?” Emily asked as she stepped inside. But when she walked into the living room, a loud “Surprise!” echoed in the room! All her friends were there, smiling and cheering. Emily was shocked and speechless.

“What is happening?” she asked, laughing and feeling surprised. Sarah hugged her tightly. “Happy Birthday, Emily! This is your surprise party!”

Emily was emotional. She looked at her friends and saw the decorated room. “Wow! You all did this for me?” she asked. Mark smiled, “Of course! You mean so much to us.”

They all sat down to eat the cake and snacks. Emily felt grateful. She enjoyed telling stories and laughing with her friends. They played games and danced to music.

At the end of the night, her friends gathered around her. Sarah handed Emily a beautifully wrapped gift. “This is for you,” she said. Emily opened it and found a lovely bracelet. “It’s beautiful! Thank you so much!” she exclaimed.

As the party ended, Emily felt happiness in her heart. She hugged each friend and said, “This has been the best birthday ever!” She knew that it was not just the surprises that made her birthday special, but the love of her friends.

Emily went to bed that night with a big smile on her face. She felt lucky to have friends who cared for her. She closed her eyes, dreaming of another wonderful year ahead.
