Short Story 21 – The Mysterious Forest

Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Sarah who lived in a small village on the edge of a dark and mysterious forest. Sarah had always been curious about the forest, but her parents had forbidden her from going near it.

One day, Sarah could not resist her curiosity any longer. She snuck out of her house and went into the forest. She walked for a long time, following a winding path that led her deeper and deeper into the woods.

As she walked, Sarah began to feel uneasy. The trees seemed to be closing in on her, and the air was thick with the smell of decay. She started to hear strange noises, like the howling of wolves and the hooting of owls.

Sarah was about to turn back when she saw a light in the distance. She walked towards the light and found herself in a clearing. In the middle of the clearing was a small cottage.

Sarah knocked on the door of the cottage, and an old woman answered. The old woman was dressed in black, and she had a long, white beard.

“Can I help you, child?” the old woman asked.

“I am lost,” Sarah said. “Can you help me find my way home?”

“Of course,” the old woman said. “Come in, come in.”

Sarah went inside the cottage, and the old woman gave her some food and water. Then, the old woman showed Sarah a map of the forest.

“This is the map of the forest,” the old woman said. “Follow this path, and it will take you back to your village.”

Sarah thanked the old woman and left the cottage. She followed the path on the map, and soon she was back in her village.

Sarah was so happy to be home. She told her parents about the old woman in the cottage, but her parents did not believe her. They told her that the forest was a dangerous place, and that she should never go there again.

But Sarah knew that she would never forget the old woman in the cottage, or the mysterious forest.
